The General Committee is responsible for managing, organising and maintaining the golfing activities for the members and associated administration. The membership of the committee comprises the Men’s Captain, Lady Captain, Seniors Captain, Men’s Vice-Captain, Lady Vice-Captain, Seniors Vice-Captain, President, Competition and Handicap Secretary, Treasurer, Club Secretary and Junior Organiser.
The General Committee is also responsible, in conjunction with the Complex, for planning, organising and running social events.
The President is responsible for chairing the General Committee and working with the Proprietor to ensure that there is excellent communication with no unresolved issues between the Club and the Complex. He/she also ensures that no action is taken by the Club which may be detrimental to the interests of the Proprietor.
The Treasurer is responsible for protecting the Member’s financial interests through the production of accurate and auditable records of the members accounts and investments, undertake the banking of monies, drawing of cheques and such further purchasing of services as are required to run the Members Club. He also chairs the member’s IT committee.
The Secretary is accountable for all matters arising from the General Committee and for keeping full and correct Minutes of all proceedings of the Club and of the General Committee. He / she is responsible for ensuring compliance of the membership with the current club rules and byelaws and recommending appropriate updates.
The Competitions and Handicaps Secretary is responsible for organising the administration of all Club competitions, during the course of the year and for making and publishing Local Rules under Section 33/8 and consistent with Appendix 1 of The Rules of Golf. She is also responsible for administering your handicap.
The role of a Captain in our Golf Club carries much kudos in as much as it is an honour to be chosen and holds a mark of respect in the external golfing world.
Each Captain provides specific leadership for their respective category of membership whilst also supporting each other in fulfilling their mutual duties. Their fundamental role is:
to organise the golfing year and any social events allied to those events,
to provide a conduit between the members and the General Committee and
to be ambassadors for the Club.
Through their efforts, we seek to generate sufficient profit through events to run the Club. They also actively raise money for the Captains Charity which is selected each year.
Under normal circumstances, vice-captains are the Captains designate for the following year.
They use their year as vice captain to develop an awareness of the role of the committees in the club, and to determine how they wish to develop their Section when taking up office.
During the year, they will act as understudy for the Captain at a number of events so they can learn the ropes and maximise the likelihood of them having a fruitful and enjoyable year of captaincy.
The Junior Section / Academy is led by Junior Organiser Nathan Loveridge who believes that Juniors are the future of golf and a successful Junior section should be most important to all golf clubs. His ambition in the coming years is to develop and maintain a successful and inclusive junior section from entry level to competitive matches here at Brickhampton Court Golf Complex.
Supporting him in his endeavours are a committee of members who are dedicated to crafting an inclusive environment where everyone not only enjoys their time on and off the course but also discovers the joy of learning and playing the game we all love.
